Go Erin: Pack
Neat Freak
Here’re a few practical tips for packing – ‘cause, really, who is more organized than me? Just follow these few simple rules:
Rule #1: Only pack what you can run with, which usually means 1 large backpack and one small day pack.
When traveling within the US, only use 2 carry-on bags, which will not only save you from waiting for your luggage at the end of your trip, but also will give you added flexibility in making connections or changing plans at the last minute. Now with fees for checked baggage, it will also save you money.
- If you forget something, don’t stress, you can buy it on the road.
- Pack an extra bag for bringing stuff home.
Bag Lady
I didn’t want to like ‘em – but I do! Sam, me mum, bought them for me for Christmas and it took me a whole year and a half to actually use the things: Compression Storage Bags. They allow you to organize your packing and literally squeeze much more in.
I travel with 2 medium bags and 2 small bags. This is my system:
- 1 medium bag: external wear (jacket/hoodies/scarves)
- 1 medium bag: pants/skirts/shorts
- 1 small bag: tops/t-shirts
- 1 small bag: small garment (socks/under things/bathing suits)

Natural Woman
I am a big believer in going “natural” while traveling, which means no make up (except a colored lip balm.) This is my shtick for a number of reasons:
Part of traveling is getting outside your comfort zone. Live on the wild side, leave the eye liner at home.
I most often travel to developing nations. With either red or blonde hair, I don’t need to draw extra attention to myself. This is for cultural reasons and safety reasons. Along this same line of thinking, I normally wear a hat.
While I always go sans make-up, I do carry a small perfume sample and have a rockin’ pedicure. I know this is a little contradictory, but in my mind, the perfume and pedicure are little personal luxuries.
And let’s face it, my feet are my best feature. While I don’t have a foot fetish, people with foot fetishes come up to me all the time to compliment my feet. At first, I thought it was kinda creepy, but now I think it’s funny and I’m very proud of my feet.
Here’s a picture of ‘em (my feet, I mean). If you want a personal Go Erin Fancy Foot calendar, just write and we’ll see what we can do.
