As told, the city of Tangier was created when Hercules separated Europe and Africa by grasping the Rock of Gibraltar and Mt. Musa (near Tangier) and pulled them apart to create a protected city for his son. Hercules’ son named the city after his mother: Tingis (later changed to Tangier).
