I’m the first to admit that I make bad TV-viewing decisions. Although given the popularity of Reality TV, apparently I’m not alone. 

At its best, reality TV offers up some harmless escapism. At its worst, it takes us away from thinking about and, more importantly, doing something about what’s occurring in our everyday lives. I’m all for scrumptious escapism, but only to a point.

So this month’s philanthropy poll is an attempt to bridge both worlds: a salute to the best of reality TV, coupled with my own personal goal of giving away moolah to those who need it. 

The Reality TV show with the most votes by November 30, gets a $100 donation sent to their alter-ego org. The contenders are:

 

• Project Runway → Dress for Success promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
• Top Chef → Feeding America (formerly Second Harvest) provides food to Americans living with hunger.  
• Deadliest Catch → Surfrider Foundation is a dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s oceans, waves and beaches for all people, through conservation, activism, research and education. 

Above are just a couple of the shows that I will publicly cop to watching…and there are a few others that I won’t.  These shows are so “bad” I will only list their acronyms because my shame is too great — read: RHoA, RZ, GND.
